Last year I posted on a pathetic baby girl named Willgesta here.

Willgesta is now 20 months old and when I examined her a few days ago she looked about the same. Her mother is doing an excellent job of keeping her alive. They live in the mountains overlooking Port-au-Prince.

After examining her in April of last year I sent her to a pediatric hospital in Port-au-Prince where she was hospitalized for seven days.

Her echocardiogram shows a Ventricular Septal Defect (VSD) which is the most common congenital heart disease.

The good news is that Willgesta was accepted for heart surgery by a US cardiovascular team which comes to Haiti several times a year. She will be followed periodically at the pediatric hospital this year and will have her VSD repaired in country in early 2015.
