Ohio’s AG Helps Haitian Hearts Patients--March 2016

Over the past 15 years I have contacted Ohio’s Attorney General Mike DeWine numerous times for help placing Haitian Hearts patients for heart surgery in hospitals in Ohio. AG DeWine has responded quickly to EACH request–even calling me from his cell phone to make sure that timely help was being found.
Two of many patients who would no longer be with us without the help of AG DeWine are Katina and Heurese. Haitian Hearts brought both Katina and Heurese to Peoria fifteen years ago and both girls had successful heart surgery. But years later when they needed repeat heart surgery, they had no medical center to return to…until AG DeWine intervened.
Both girls have overcome incredible odds during the last 15 years in Haiti. They survived tropical storms, violence against their families (Katina’s father’s tiny store was burned down), gang-land kidnappings, political unrest, a massive earthquake, the largest cholera outbreak in the world, an absent Haitian medical system, and mind-numbing poverty.
Katina and Heurese are doing well now after repeat heart surgery and are with wonderful host families in Ohio. (Both young ladies extend their greetings and gratitude to their “old” host families in Peoria that watched over them many years ago.)
Thank you again AG DeWine.
