Daniel has Heart Surgery Today--May 2014

Daniel had his heart surgery today, came off the bypass pump easily, and he is stable.
His tissue valve that had been placed in the mitral position at OSF-SFMC in Peoria in 2001 had completely scarred in and its leaflets were not moving. (This is not unusual for a tissue valve that was placed more than a decade ago.) This tissue valve was removed today and a plastic/metal valve put in its place.
Daniel has an important few days in front of him now in the cardiovascular intensive care unit. But all Daniel wanted was a chance and he got that chance today.
Thank you very much to Swedish Medical Center in Englewood, Colorado, Dr. Myles Guber and his excellent surgical team, and Dr. Wayne Yakes for his advocacy for Daniel.
