This seven-day-old baby boy was brought to St. Catherine’s Hospital in Cite Soleil yesterday by his mother. She reported that he had a fever since yesterday.

Mother told us that she delivered him while walking down the street in Port-au-Prince. He was “ne sur la voie publique” (born in public view).

His exam revealed a jaundiced newborn with a low-grade fever.

He received an IV in the back of his left hand and was given ampicillin and gentamycin.

For the Haitian poor, their lives can be embarrassing and dangerous from start to finish.
