Her Face--October 2020

I watched her as she watched her husband while he answered my questions. And she looked worried.

Forty years of experience has taught me to observe wives and listen to them when they have a sick husband. And her face was telling me all I needed to know.

Mr. Valcin is sick with valves inside his heart which are leaky. And Mrs. Valcin knows that she and her two kids cannot lose him. Port-au-Prince is especially mean now and they need him more than ever.

I am glad that I can’t see her face now as she watches her husband become more short of breath from his failing heart. And I am happy that I don’t have to explain to her why her husband was not granted a visa to travel to the United States for heart surgery.

I am glad I don’t have to see her face now.
