Sickle Cell Anemia and Tap Tap Drivers

This 15-year-old boy has sickle cell disease.

Both his parents are dead and he lives with his grandmother.

Two days ago he came to the hospital for fever and cough.

He took a tap-tap up the mountain alone to the hospital and the tap-tap driver stole 250 gourdes from this young man and quickly drove off.

I started him on antibiotics and he is holding a bottle of folic acid from my beautiful mom. Folic acid will help him form new blood cells while sickle cell disease destroys them.

He seems like a great kid.
