Motorcycle and Phone Stolen--April 2021

I have a motorcycle chauffeur in Port au Prince who wheels me around. 

Ten days ago his phone and his motorcycle were stolen. 

He makes his living squiring people around on his motorcycle and he depends on both his phone and his motorcycle to make a few dollars and support his wife and daughter.  

So why is this a big deal? And what has gone wrong?

Well, there is not a functioning government in Haiti. There is chaos and disorder on the streets. Bandits do what they want to people like my driver. And the bandits frequently get away with this and much more. 

Haitian society is functioning but at a low level. How do you go about your day when you are afraid you and your loved ones can be victimized when you step out of your home? 

How do you send your kids to school? Will they be kidnapped?

How do you go to work if you have a job? If you go to work, will you come back?

How does your wife go to market and escape the bullets?
