The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly--2003

This is what happened between 2001 and 2003:

1. I was fired from OSF in December 2001 losing touch with my physician colleagues, resident physicians, medical students, all of the patients in the Emergency Room, and all of the staff at OSF. I had lost my dream job.

2. Even though OSF Administration had said to the media that Haitian Hearts would survive my firing, OSF cut all funds for Haitian childrens' surgeries in July 2002.

3. Haitian Hearts raised 445,000 dollars for Children's Hospital of Illinois in 2002. However, at the end of 2002, Paul Kramer, Executive Director of Children's Hospital of Illinois, contacted the American Consulate in Port-au-Prince and asked them not to issue any further visas for Haitian children to travel to OSF for heart surgery.

4. I picketed OSF in early 2003 after Kramer's action.

5. The Catholic Diocese of Peoria abandons Haitian Hearts.

6. The one good thing---Haitian Hearts kept working in Haiti and and we found other medical centers in the States to accept Haitian kids for heart surgery.
