The Emergency Room in Soleil--July 2012

Cite Soleil has a "guestimated" population of 300,000 people. Nobody really has any good idea in my opinion. But there are people everywhere you look…

The Emergency Room (ER) at St. Catherine's Hospital is open Monday-Sunday from 8AM-4PM. It is the only ER in the entire slum of Soleil.

There are three stretchers inside the tiny ER.

The ER physician usually shows up…but not always.

The baby above, who is very anemic, had a scalp abscess incised and drained today.

Can you imagine the chaos if the Peoria area had one tiny ER with three stretchers for our entire population and was open only eight hours each day?
