View from Inside

Cite Soleil--Photo by John Carroll

I wrote this post in early 2007. The view from the inside of Soleil was bleak at that point.

Now in 2020, Soleil is still bleak. It's people suffer so much. They have nothing except hunger and illness and stress. And this has been the year of Covid.

The gang leaders of Soleil in 2007 are all gone (in one way or another) and have been replaced multiple times over. As 2020 comes to a close, there is no shooting in Soleil because the gang leaders signed an accord a few months ago. And this allowed me to work in Soleil in 2020 just like the good old days.

Questions and Comments--

  • Cite Soleil is just one of the main themes of my book. Is this what you call it...a theme?
  • Other themes for the book will include Haitian Hearts, OSF-Saint Francis Medical Center, EMS in Peoria, Social Justice, Patient abandonment and Personal abandonment, Cholera and other maladie du jour
